About Prof. Tomola M. Obamuyi

Professor T. M. Obamuyi attended Ondo State University, Ado-Ekiti, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree (B.Sc. Hons.) in Banking and Finance in 1990. Thereafter, he had his Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Finance in 1998 from the University of Lagos, and Master of Business Administration (MBA) and Ph.D. Management Science from the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), Nigeria in 1999 and 2005 respectively. He started his teaching career as Graduate Assistant at the then Ondo State University, Ado-Ekiti in April,1995. On 1st December, 2000, the relocation exercise of the University took him to the Ondo State University, Akungba-Akoko (now Adekunle Ajasin University), where he rose through the ranks to become a Professor in 2012. When in the services of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, Ondo State, he was, at different times, the Head, Department of Banking and Finance for twelve years, and Director, Linkages and International Programmes Office of the University for two years, and Chairman/member of many University Committees. The desire to advance his career on a wider platform and to demonstrate the universality of knowledge informed his joining FUTA on 1st April, 2015 as a Professor. At the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), he was privileged to be elected as the first substantive Dean, School of Management Technology, from 1st October, 2015, till 31st July, 2019. He is also a Member of several Committees of the University. He is the pioneering Editor-in-Chief of the FUTA Journal of Management and Technology. At present, he is the Director, University Advancement Centre, Federal University of Technology, Akure, Nigeria. Since appointed as a Professor, he has assisted in assessing many colleagues for promotion to the professorial cadre. He has served as External Examiner to candidates for M.Sc and Ph.D oral examinations in many Universities. Professor Obamuyi also served as Member of National Universities Commission (NUC) programme Accreditation Teams (Nigeria), as well as Chairperson and Subject Expert of the Review Panel for National Council for Higher Education (Namibia). He has also contributed significantly in the areas of capacity building, administration and community development. He has successfully supervised over 60 candidates at Postgraduate Diploma, Masters and Ph.D levels. His research activities over 25 years have richly enhanced the publication of over seventy (70) articles in national and international Journals and his participation in several international surveys/think-tanks/workshops. He is a member of the Nigerian Team, Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM), an international project coordinated jointly by Babson College, USA and London Business School, UK. He is also the Nigerian Representative, Global University Entrepreneurial Spirit Students’ Survey (GUESSS), University of St. Gallen, Switzerland. He has participated actively as reviewer and presenter in many international conferences organised by the International Council for Small Business (ICSB), with Headquarters in Washington 2 DC, USA. He was also privileged to be among the 80 participants drawn across the globe to participate in the Transformational Entrepreneurship Think Tank, Coventry University, United Kingdom in March, 2018. In all, he has been privileged to attend and present papers, in many countries like Finland, United Kingdom, Canada, Sweden, Ireland, Ghana, Zambia, Uganda, Ethiopia, India, United States of America, among others. He is also a member of many other Professional Associations. He is an Associate, the Nigerian Institute of Management; an Associate, Chartered Institute of Marketing of Nigeria; Fellow, Company and Commercial Accountants of Nigeria; Fellow, Institute of Corporate Affairs Management; Fellow, Nigerian Society for Financial Research, and Fellow, Association of Entrepreneurship Scholars. He has received several travel grants for overseas trips from many international organisations, including Global Entrepreneurship Monitor, Global Entrepreneurship Research Association, Canadian International Development Agency, International Development Research Centre and Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency. He participated in the International Transformational Entrepreneurship International Think Tank organised by the Coventry University, United Kingdom, in March 2018. He bagged the prestigious award of the "Best Professor of Banking and Finance in Africa for 2015" by the Africa Education Leadership Awards, Mauritius, East Africa. Professor Tomola Marshal Obamuyi is a Professor of Finance and Entrepreneurship. He delivered the 99th Inaugural Lecture of the Federal University of Technology, Akure, on 12th June, 2018, titled: Finance, Entrepreneurship and Institutions: The Triple Helix for Nigeria's Economic Growth (available on www.tomolaobamuyi.ng). Professor Tomola Marshal Obamuyi is happily married with children.
